Mr. Witherspoon, an Illinois native and WWII Navy veteran, has been a resident of Water Oak, in Lady Lake, since 1987. Before retirement he was a golf professional and managing partner of a golf course.

Other experience includes his first job as a caddy (at 25 cents for 9 holes), soda jerk (during high school), and parts-chaser/tool-pusher in the oil fields.

Father of two and step-father of three, he tries to keep up with his eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He comments, "When I want to get away from it all I find you can never get away from all of it." And the most valuable lesson he's learned is to "treat everyone like you would like to be treated."
